Compositing /Creative Digital Workshop

Workshop Details

This workshop will cover the art of compositing (Using 2 or more images or part of images to compile one final image). Composites or Creative Digital Images are common place in the modern world of photography. The reasons for compositing can be as simple as replacing a dull sky to enhance an image or to create a masterpiece of digital art. Best part about it is that the skills learned in compositing are transferable to all aspects of editing.

This workshop will cover all aspects of compositing from the initial subject shoot, the cut out to the final image. 

  • Shooting for composites

    • Subjects​

    • Backgrounds

    • Additional assets

    • Using green screens and other backgrounds to make cut outs easier
       

  • Cut out techniques 

    • The technique used to cut out the image depends on the subject and background characteristics. A number of techniques will be covered.​

  • Making it look real

    • Matching Lighting direction​

    • Colour temperature

    • Perspective
       

  • Using Textures and other overlays
     

  • Producing the final image

 

 

Date/Time/Location: The workshop will take place on Saturday morning 9.30am to 1.30pm at the Ramada Hotel, Cork Road, Waterford.

Requirements: You will need a laptop or Desktop PC with a CS or CC version of Photoshop installed. Alternatively a version of Photoshop Elements that supports Layer Masks will suffice.The room is located just inside the main door of the Ramada so you can pull up outside and carry in your desktop if required.

Level of ability:  Workshop participants need to have a moderate level of ability in Photoshop of adjusting and enhancing images. If you have never used Photoshop or are very limited in your ability, this is not for you.

Cost: Fee for this workshop is just €50 or €45 for members of Waterford Camera Club

Why Composite?

It provides us with the ability to create stunning images not possible without huge organisation and costs. In the image above, you could be on holidays anywhere in the world or in historical locations at home. Shoot the background image without the need to hire models, set up lights, get permissions, avoid the tourists etc, the list goes on! Or you may already have hundreds of background shots your archives that could turn into fabulous creative images with the addition of subjects and other enhancing elements and learn how to place the subjects into it and ensure it looks convincing!
